Neighborhood House Executive Director Honored

The Rahway Community Action Organization’s (RCAO) Board of Directors and Gala Committee awarded our Executive Director, Carol A. Presley, with the 2024 Inaugural Gala Distinguished Board Service in recognition and appreciation of her many years of leadership, support, and advocacy.

Since 1980, Carol A. Presley has dedicated her career to the Neighborhood House Association in Plainfield, NJ. Carol started as a math tutor and worked her way up to become the Executive Director in 2000. She played a crucial role in implementing the Abbott vs Burke initiative, ensuring equal educational resources for all children in New Jersey. This led to the development of high standards for preschool education, including research-based curriculum and certified teachers. Under Mrs. Presley’s leadership, Neighborhood House has achieved state ratings and national accreditation, expanding its service to over 300 students in three locations.

The agency offers quality childcare, maintains a nursing facility, full-service kitchen, and school bus services in addition to the support resources provided through the Board of Education collaboration. Mrs. Presley’s commitment to advocating for children and promoting quality childcare has had a significant impact on the community.

Mrs. Presley is a graduate of Douglas College, Rutgers University and holds a Masters in Early Childhood Leadership from Bank Street College of Education. She believes everyone has something to offer. Just as a teacher motivates her students and differentiates her teaching to tap the genius in each child, a successful Educational Leader encourages teamwork and looks for the talent within each individual.

Mrs. Presley has been married to Pastor Douglas E. Presley for 38 years, is the mother of two lovely daughters, Kerryn Ariel (who is also a Rutgers graduate and educator) and Kia Imani (an American Sign Language interpreter and graduate of George Mason University). She has four super grandchildren, one sparky grandpup, and an awesome son-in-law!

The RCAO serves as a beacon of hope, offering educational, social,
and financial assistance to countless residents, helping them overcome challenges and build brighter futures. The gala brought together local leaders, advocates, and philanthropists to celebrate their shared commitment to making Rahway a thriving and equitable community.
